YOU HAVE PASSED THE PRESCREENING INTERVIEW, BUT WHAT'S NEXT? PREPARE FOR YOUR FORMAL INTERVIEWS HERE
Great, you have got your CV reviewed, and now you've passed your prescreening interview with a recruiter or talent acquisition professional, but how should you prepare for your first hiring manager interview? This is often the most important interview you will have in the course of your job application, as companies often have your future line manager, do the first official interview.
Recruiters do a phenomenal job of screening and assessing candidates in the prescreening interview. Be confident that you are already meeting a number of expectations the employer has in terms of skills, experience and temperament or you wouldn't have made it to this stage.
However, this is not the time to be complacent! You are still competing against a number of candidates for the role. Hiring Manager interviews tend to be challenging, with more in depth and probing questions. It is important therefore to re-review your skills and experience and how they compare to the requirements of the role.
You should expect to go into much more detail about the work you have done. Be ready to explain specific examples of your work, and the positive benefits of that work to your team, colleagues and employers.
If the role you are targeting is technical, you can may to be asked to provide coding or programming examples, or even do some 'at home' work with a fixed timeline to get your results back to the hiring manager to prove your technical expertise.
Another thing to consider, is the possibility of being interviewed by a panel of interviewers (2 or more). Do not be intimidated! Their goal is to hire the best candidate and they will be thrilled if that is you, their goal is not to find reasons to reject you, but to find reasons to hire you - so exude confidence, hold your head high, and speak clearly and comprehensively about your skills, and what you can add to the team. I always think of my ultimate goal, which is to make my bosses job easier, and make them shine.
Remember to ask at the end of your interview, what to expect next and when you will get feedback. Good luck!
